Duties can consist of: vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning kitchen, appliances and removal of trash, cleaning bathrooms, assisting with organizing and straightening of rooms used by the client. Caregivers can assist with laundry needs either in the home or at a laundromat.

Respite/ Companionship

Caregivers cannot administer medications but the can assist in ensuring that a client takes their medication as prescribed. A caregiver can help with opening a medication container, reading labels and reminding a client when it is time for next dose.

Transferring and Positioning

Transferring is one of the top priorities in helping client move around their homes. This may include getting in and out of bed, chairs, and wheelchairs. Caregivers are trained on proper transferring and repositioning to reduce sore or pressure spots. Toileting can also be a time to assist client with transferring on and off the commode.
